Happilly (ish) driving along the M40 this morning at 70 (ish) when my discussion with my car-buddy (carpool colleague? perpetual passenger?) about how much better driving was versus getting the train (honestly!) when I was rudely interrupted by a high speed pebble impacting the windscreen, roughly 2 inches above and to the left of my left eye.

splinter

This was a little scary, but no major damage to myself, passenger, or car beyond a ~8cm diameter pretty shatter pattern, some flecks of glass and a minor heart attack.

Got the car to the office and dutifully phoned Autoglass, finally having a use for the thousands of adverts they've inflicted on me via the radio. After a considerable amount of thought and investigation (about 2 hours worth) they decided that the High Wycombe branch had one in stock and very conveniently was only 10 minutes walk from the office. Particularly convenient, because despite their oh so frequent adverts, they apparently are incapable of driving 3 minutes down the road to fit the windscreen on the doorstep.

Bad news - no fully comp insurance for Lorna. No windscreen insurance because I'd felt 50quid a year was a bit steep and how often does a windscreen need replacing anyway?

On the statistical side I'm only slightly 'down' in the insurance gambling scheme - 5 years insurance would have been 250 quid. New windscreen - 250.50.

No shinies for Lorna this month.

This should have been the end of it, except for the fact the bloody incompetent morons forgot to put my rear view mirror or tax disc on! The mirror I spotted before leaving, the tax disc not so much. So I had to trek back there to collect it ("sorry, no one's available to deliver it").
