I guess in a week that contains a dentist appointment, an opticians appointment and my car's mot and service I should be extremely grateful that the biggest trauma of the last 7 days turns out to be missing Desperate Housewives on Wednesday.

I don't often do these "this is what I did this week" posts, but I feel the need to prove to myself that I've actually done something.

Saturday - I actually left the house voluntarily and walked to Tottenham Court Road via the greasy spoon in Earls Court (the waitress looked very confused that I was by myself not with the usual crowd on Friday), a Costa Coffee behind Oxford Street and a small diversion at the back of Tottenham Court Road itself. I limited my purchases to the items I needed and resisted the temptation to browse shops that would just lead to needless (I hate that I now have to define dvds as 'needless') spending. Returned home on the tube and my legs hated me for walking so far for the entire rest of the week.

Sunday - I was spontaneously invited to lunch in Ealing by my lovely little brother who then somewhat spoilt the effect by producing proof reading for me to do. On a mobile phone. The food however was superb as it always is at the (insert name of pub in the back of Ealing that I can never remember... it's large and the Duke of Something and utterly inaccessible by anything other than a car) although I'm not sure I should have been driving after the steak and ale pie.

Monday - I dutifully went to the Charity Shop for my usual shift only discover it was closed. Bah. Finally gave up and started applying for jobs, one at Google and one at a design agency.

Tuesday - Up bright and early to put the car in for it's annual service and MOT which I may have accidentally forgotten and missed by 5 days or so. Dragged myself to the dentist having been 'encouraged' to go for the first time in nearly a decade by a chipped tooth. Amazingly there was absolutely nothing wrong with any of my other teeth and it was actually a filling that had broken rather than the tooth, so back on Monday to have it excavated and refilled. I was most impressed at being able to get an appointment at an NHS dentist on one day's notice and that the dentist didn't even mention the length of time between appointments! Also collected my pretty Stitch picture from the framers and then discovered that I've run out of wall hangy things.

Wednesday - Went to the shop and was slightly disappointed to find that it was open. I didn't stay long as I felt a bit crap (the start of my 3 day and counting mild headache) and the manageress suggested I might want to go home as I was not my "usual perky self". Perky? Yeesh. Collected the car which amazingly passed it's MOT and service with nothing more than a new light bulb needed. Still cost me 180quid for the sake of a bit of paper, but coulda been much worse. I battled Tesco and won favour with flatmates by obtaining and cooking a salmon for dinner (actually it was the head of one salmon and the tail of a different one, but I don't think anyone but the fish minded).

Thursday - 3 job applications, one to Madame Tussauds and two via agencies. Um... I probably did something else... Maybe not.

Friday - Sat around the house waiting for a parcel to turn up which never did. (1/2 of it turned up at 8am this morning, but not the interesting half). Most bemused when for the second time in two days a woman came to read the meter, but couldn't do so because she "didn't understand how to read those old fashioned dials". Good to see the recruitment and training processes are working well. Had an opticians appointment for a contact lens check and arrived to be told they had no record of my appointment. The assistant was most bemused when I handed her my copy of the appointment card and pointed out that she had written it. Luckily they were empty anyways so I had my appointment and was told that I'd gone down another 0.5 in my right eye. On the plus side it doesn't cost me anything 'cos I'm on monthly lenses anyways, but it's frustrating that my eyesight still hasn't settled after 20 years wearing glasses. Magic in the evening was fun and tiring as ever and the day finished with chips.
